FINALLY!!!!!

BALTIMORE SOUTH
I know it’s been quite sometime, so please let me catch up by wishing all of you Happy Holidays and
Happy New Year!  As many of you know, I have been in Naples, Florida since mid December with my mother, Sylvia Badger who has been battling ovarian cancer and was given a rather grim report. When I arrived a record cold snap turned the sunshine state into frozen OJ state, prompting the governor, after six weeks to call me and ask me to leave due to the economic impact on tourism.  As much as I missed home, I had the pleasure of seeing many a familiar faces from the Land of Pleasant Living.  Baltimore mover and shakers, now enjoying the fruits of their labors in beautiful Naples, included former Alex Brown Exec- Curran “Cub” Harvey and his wife Jodie, Richard “Duke” Nash and his wife Sheryl, Maryland Lacrosse Hall of Famer, Dick Watts and his wife Marcie, David and Linda Long, Ann Morris Sapir, Dick and Alice Orr and former Public Service Commissioner,  William Badger, who is also my wonderful step father. A few challenges when I arrived included finding a place to watch my beloved Ravens and a good sushi place for my fishy addiction and I scored big with both. Newly opened Mullygan’s Sports Grille greeted our purple group and the owner, John Ariniello made sure we had a prime-viewing venue for many weeks. If you’re ever in need for a sports fix while in Naples Mullygan’s is the place for you. Ask for waitress extraordinaire, Lindsay, who now is a proud owner of a Ravens shirt. Now the sushi fix was not as easy because I am very particular, but when I came across Club Sushi, I was as they say a happy camper. Tammy, from Club Sushi, guided me through the unfamiliar menu and everything I got was terrific and so fresh.
I’m back in Baltimore now, but unfortunately will return to Naples soon to be with my Mom during the end of her journey with this monster. Thanks to each and every one of you from the bottom of my family’s heart for your kind thoughts, prayers, emails and support during this difficult time. It means more to us than you will ever know or that I can properly express.

MILAN-BALTIMORE
When I returned home last week, I was in major need of a media pal fix and got just that on the grand opening of Baltimore’s newest dining destination, Milan, located at 1000 Eastern Avenue, on the fringe of Harbor East and Little Italy in downtown Baltimore. Upon arriving, a huge plus for me was the ease and multiple parking options, including valet if you so choose.  This 12,000 square foot area, formerly the Luigi Petti Restaurant,  is now transformed into a crisp contemporary setting with three dining levels, as well as huge outdoor patio that is open year round. The main floor hosts a large lounge with a “U” shaped bar and sushi bar for patrons. The menu seems to be a combo of Italian infused cuisine with a Mediterranean flavor prepared by Executive Chef Stephen Carey.  But this opening was more about the who’s who and they included a grand turn out from the gang from WJZ-TV Channel 13: Marty Bass and his wife Sharon, Jessica Kartalija, Adam May, Derek Valcourt and Bernadette Woods, Bank of America’s legal beagle Larry Macklin and his wife Diane, Style Magazine Editor, Brian Lawrence, Baltimore’s best foodie writer, Examiner.com’s Dara Bunjon, Mister Media, Eddie Applefeld and Food Service Monthly’s Randi Rom to name a very few. The night was an evening of celebration and discovery of this new hot spot. Count on a menu critique soon. But I will tell you the staff was fabulous and the cocktails have a very generous pour, which is always good in my book.
