Socially Speaking
After the usual summer social slow down, Socially Speaking is now back and running with a ton of fun for you… Enjoy!
The Life and Breath Foundation, founded by Sean Hull in memory of his mom, Ida, held their 1st Annual “Flip Flop Festivus” at the lovely Tabrizi‘s restaurant, in Baltimore.
All of us true purple Baltimoreans relate to our “2000 Super Bowl” team, and the term festivus; so Sean gathered some of the finest from that magical team for this evening event. They included cutie Kyle Richardson, Qadry Ismail, new daddy Mike Flynn, nicest player ever Spencer Folau and Brad Jackson who shared that he will be inducted into the University of Cincinnati’s Hall of Fame in February 2010.
Although Mike McCrary, one of the chairs of the event, was tardy for his own pre VIP party, he did not disappoint once he arrived. Party goers bid on a fabulous auction and munched on terrific food all to raise money to provide valuable research for Sarcoidosis, a debilitating and sometimes fatal disease.
Spotted mixing and mingling were Mayor Sheila Dixon, channel 13’s Sports Director Mark Viviano, Tom and Debbie Crawford, Winnie Ryans, Carol Lerch, Dwayne Carnesne and Freddie Ryans. Congratulations, Sean, your Mother would be so proud of your hard work. For more information on this organization go to http://www.lifeandbreath.org
ONE LESS RING
Socially Speaking has learned that the above mentioned Raven, Mike McCrary, may have one less ring of honor these days. Apparently, he and his wife have called it quits. We wish both well.
SPOTTED
Last Monday night after beating up on our Orioles, New York Yankees, Derek Jeter and Jorge Posada enjoyed some of Sullivan’s Steak House’s finest beef, lobster tails and margaritas. I know; I too wish they had choked on it, instead of going on and sweeping the series. A series I would like to say was a home one, but by the look of around town, it was more like a home game for the damn Yankees!
One of my favorite people, David Sadeghi, Chief Operating Officer, of Big Steaks Management-Serious Steaks, was not crying in his Cabernet on the terrace of the Lebanese Taverna, over the recent announcement that Babalu and Blue Sea Grills would be closing. “We are focusing on the popularity of our Ruth Chris Steak Houses and celebrating the new ones.” That’s Sadeghi for ya, always positive and looking forward.
FORK WHO
There has been so much scary news in the fine dining world, but Baltimore has a new gem in its restaurant crown and it’s called B and O American Brasserie. Located at 2 North Charles Street in Baltimore, right next door to the newly renovated Hotel Monaco, a luxury Kimpton Hotel which is a MUST, I repeat MUST visit. This evening our media group was comprised of foodie types, editor types and social divas for the Brassiere’s Chef, E. Michael Reidt, to handle and boy did he ever.
Very rarely in this chatty group, can you keep us quiet, but every single item ordered brought a silence over the table then “OMG” exclamations all around. Seriously, everything was over the top great and I haven’t even touched on the beautiful cocktails and chic’ atmosphere. So, c’mon Baltimore, don’t let this one slip away, you MUST go visit Tony Hughes, the General Manager and tell him Socially Speaking sent you!
FORK WHO- PART TWO
In a very popular coffee location, Baltimore’s City Café, located in beautiful Mount Vernon area, and has expanded by adding a beautiful fine dining area to its java café. A very hip bar area is complimented by an intimate, yet sophisticated dining area. Upstairs features a warm dining area that can also be used for private dinner parties as well. For owners, Gino Cardinale and Bruce Bodie, this has been a work in progress that is now complete with the addition of Executive Chef Chad Gauss. Chef has created an extensive menu of American cuisine that in this gal’s opinion is quite good. I’m not the only gal that loved this place, so does our First Lady, Katie Curran O’Malley who has been spotted there. For reservations or menu information go to http://www.citycafebaltimore.com
Next Column of “Fork Who” is highlighting the Lebanese Taverna, located in the trendy Harbor East area, of Baltimore. A don’t miss, for sure!
