Hotel Monaco Opens it’s Doors to Lucky Dog Rescue, Santa and Your Favorite Pet for SANTA PAWS!

Put your best paw forward - it’s time for a SANTA PAWS party!

FUROCIOUS has been to the luxurious, pet-friendly Hotel Monaco in Baltimore, but if you have not - now is your opportunity to enjoy the exquisite decor, mingle with fellow pet owners, get your favorite pet’s photo with Santa ($20) AND help a very worthy cause, Lucky Dog Animal Rescue. Santa Paws is this Saturday, December 10, 2-4 PM in the ‘living room’ of the Hotel Monaco located at 2 N. Charles Street, downtown Baltimore (443. 692-6170). Hotel guests, tourists and area residents alike are invited to join the furry fun!

If you’ve ever applied to adopt a homeless pet, but did not get the dog, it’s likely you also never heard back from the rescue or shelter again. Chances are, you didn’t even realize your application was discarded once a new owner was chosen for the dog.  Seems counter-intuitive, doesn’t it, when there are so many dogs out there looking for good laps?

Enter Mirah Horowitz, Executive Director and Founder of Lucky Dog Animal Rescue (http://www.luckydoganimalrescue.org) which is a network of fosters that operates from Northern Virginia to Baltimore.  The rescue, founded in 2009, rescues animals from high kill shelters in Virginia, West Virginia, North Carolina and South Carolina where hundreds of highly-adoptable dogs are euthanized each year.

“We felt there was better way to do dog rescue: focusing on the people as well as the dogs.  Most rescues screen applicants for a particular dog and then discard the applicants who do not get the dog,” says Mirah.  Lucky Dog will also take applications from possible adopters who may not know what dog they want to adopt.

“By screening adopters and then matching-them with the perfect dog, rather than turning them down because they may not be a fit for the dog they were originally interested in, we are able to find many more dogs lasting, loving homes.”

Lucky Dog has about 40-50 dogs in foster care at any given time, and they are always looking for good fosters along the Baltimore-Washington, D.C. corridor. Donations of food, leashes, collars, sheets, towels,  toys are also always appreciated and you can bring those along with you on Saturday if you have any to donate. Out of state? Lucky Dog has cooperative relationships with rescues in other states as well in order to conduct home visits, so if you are an out-of-state potential adopter, contact Lucky Dog to find out how to apply.  FUROCIOUS was told that the rescue has about 147 animals – including those still in the care of their shelter partners—looking for homes and fosters. Ninety-percent of every donation to the rescue goes directly to caring for the dogs, including food, vetting, medical supplies, boarding (when necessary), rescue pull fees and transportation.

“We really enjoy doing programs like Santa Paws where we can reach out into the local community and make a difference locally.  This is a national Kimpton program that reminds people that we are pet-friendly and that our hotels are focused on servicing all of our guests including our four legged friends,” said Ben Timashanka, General Manager for the Hotel Monaco Baltimore.

In addition to pet photos with Santa, this Saturday, December 10, from 2-4 PM, you can meet two of Lucky Dog’s special adoptable pets at Santa Paws. For a $20 donation, you get to bring your dapper dogs, prettiest pooches (or festive felines—all pets welcome!) to sit on Santa’s lap for their official holiday photo.  You can also bring your own camera along at no additional charge to also take photos of Santa with your favorite pet. There will be a $5 raffle for great prizes such as a Petals4Pets (photo is a sample from their collection, not necessarily the bouquet to be raffled) bouquet courtesy Flowers & Fancies, a copy of the new book The Dogs of War by Lisa Rogak, special packaged treats from Baltimore Dog Bakery, donations from the Hotel Monaco and much more!  Tasty treats for humans and ‘four-legged’ companions will be available.

Put on your jingle bells and head on over to Baltimore’s Hotel Monaco (http://www.monaco-baltimore.com) this Saturday from 2-4 PM.  I’ll be there and I’d love to meet your favorite furry companion! The hardest part will be leaving, you may just want to check in…until then, high-paw!
