Brian Lawrence Live
Dec. 1-12
The month kicked off with a group of 9 of us taking over a table at Sascha’s for the famous Monday Night Fried Chicken Night— that’s some damned fine chicken, and perfect for cold winter nights. Plus it can be a challenge to even find an open restaurant on a Monday in Baltimore, just another reason to add to your repertoire. It was also fun to run into friends Ron Solomon and Debbie Cameron while there. The next night I took in “Rock of Ages” at the Hippodrome, after a nice little VIP cocktail reception put on by Broadway Across America VP Jeff Daniel, where I also ran into Peter & Mindy O’Malley. That Wed. night, stopped by the annual Toys For Tots reception and shopping night at Cupcake, hosted by Lisa Schatz, and Thurs. night was the Monument Lighting. As last year, we spent the early part of the evening at a reception in the Henry Walters house right on the square, hosted by Walters director Gary Vikon. Also chatted with the lovely Anne Berman and with the mayor. After the fireworks, I walked around the corner to Diane Rohrer‘s annual Christmas bash, where I caught up with Jim Burger, Megan Hamilton, Ron Smith and Julia Felscher. Sunday Dec. 5 was the annual Guilford Christmas party, so we stayed there until 8:30 then beat it home to watch the Ravens almost beat the Steelers… sigh. On Wed., Dec. 8, made the trek out to Sykesville to have dinner with the media peeps at Baldwin’s Station. A fun evening with friends, and the food was worth the drive. Dec. 9 had two parties on the books: the opening reception for DressCode by Gita‘s newest Pop-Up Shop in Harbor East, where I chatted with Maureen Gold, Barbie Hart, Jordan Faye Block and Style‘s Maggie Farley. Then Maggie and I headed over to Canton for the opening/holiday party at Architectural Ceramics, which had a “Mad Men” theme. We then hit Vino Rosina for some munchies— funny how you always forget to actually eat at a party, right? I did see Donna Crivello and got an update on the fire damage at Donna’s in Mt. Vernon. I then made a late-night stop at 13.5% and joined Ben Greenwald, Willis McGill, Cristen Pascucci, John Angelos, Tony Foreman and Peter Keck for last call.
