Getting back into the swing of things after a week in Paris… On Wednesday evening, I attended a preview night at the new Chazz: A Bronx Original in Harbor East. The new restaurant that New York actor Chazz Palminteri is opening with partners brothers Sergio and Alessandro Vitale (of Aldo’s). My dining companions were pals Celeste Corsaro and Mike Fishman, and we proceeded to put a large dent into two excellent pizzas from the wood-fired oven, some excellent pasta and some first-rate osso buco. The space is beautiful, as conceived by Rita St. Clair & Assoc.— made to evoke parts of NYC, including a foyer modeled after an NYC subway station. Other diners there that night that I ran into: PR maven Amy Elias, designer Brian Thim and chef Pat Morrow. Then it was next door to Pazo for a nightcap, where we ran into Jim Halle, Willis McGill, Sara Schmidt and a few others. (I won’t mention the later part of the story where three of us, along with Victor Acosta, push-started Celeste’s car on Aliceanna Street in traffic.)
On Thursday evening, I stopped by a book-signing party at the Mt. Vernon studios of designer Mona Hajj, to celebrate the publication of her beautiful new coffee table design book, “Interior Visions.” It was a nice crowd that turned up (and I have to say, the hors d’oeuvres were particularly yummy— I have to remember to ask Mona who did them). Among those there in the crowd to celebrate were appraiser Mimi Kapiloff, editor Dennis Hockman, architect Wayne Good and photographer Erik Kvalsvik. Then it was on to a happy-hour get-together with some old office colleagues and then to grab some dinner at The Prime Rib with designer Patrick Sutton to discuss some of his upcoming projects.
