Spirits West is located on Mill Hill, the longest city block in Baltimore known as “a deck of cards” because 52 rowhomes are sandwiched between 2 bars.
The location is deceiving…sure there are hookers trolling across the street (some not too bad looking) and sure the area is known as a drug haven. But inside this little gem is a “4 star in a little bar”.
The cream of crab and Md. crab soup are famous. The steak will melt in your mouth. Yes, this may be a “working class” bar, but the cozy atmosphere and friendly manner of owners Butch and Sharon cannot be denied.
I recommend that you give this place a chance..come as you are, leave as you always wanted to be…it’s never too late to become what you might have been…have a beer on Butch!

Amy, you must be joking! this place is located in central junkie land, the place is full of druggies and prostitutes. it’s not safe in that area and you recommend people to go there?
Spirits West
If you’re looking for authentic working-class Baltimore, this is your place. A smoke-filled, friendly, everybody knows your name kind’a place. And if they don’t know your name before you come in, they will by the time you leave. We’re talking no thrills here, people. Think plastic tablecloths and football on a giant flat-screen. The best place to go for some seriously good Maryland crab soup and kick-butt Old Bay flavored wings and decent everything else. Go here when you just want to eat some food for cheap and talk to your friends without a scene, or when you miss your uncle’s basement card games.
