...and that’s not the half of it…I knew people who spread the poor lighting bug’s bodies on their finger nails as some sort of glow-in-the-dark polish…now that’s twisted! I attended a party two weekends ago in Perry Hall and they were out, but not in abundance. I, too, wonder what has become of these little summertime bugs.

She said “Yeah, I miss lightning bugs, too ... I used to make jewelry out of them, necklaces and rings and stuff, by twisting them in grass stalks (I was, like most 8-year-olds, cruel and ignorant) and wearing them until they dimmed.”
Hmmm, this statement made me flashback to my childhood and nights of running around the neighborhood with lightning bugs we caught in a jar. We did however, poke holes into the lid of the jar to prolong their life and when we got bored of it we released them.
Making jewelry from them NEVER EVER crossed my mind.
