Welcome to the Baltimore Jewish Times Men’s Health Blog.

Ok, I’ll bite, What in the world is a men’s health blog and better yet, why is there a men’s health blog.?

Before we get to the question above, I think an introduction is in order. My name is Ed Leventhal. Many in the Jewish Community know me as Dr. Leventhal. I am a Baltimore native, graduated Milford Mill Sr. High School far too long ago and after college and medical school found myself serving in the United States Army. Nine years later, I ended up back in Baltimore and have been a private practice urologist with Advanced Urology Associates, living back in my hometown since 1997. In the interest of fairness, I admit to loving the Ravens, bemoaning the ownership of my Orioles and hating the Pittsburgh Squealers, the Cleveland Clowns and the DC Deadskins, but not necessarily in that order.

All right, so what is a men’s health blog and why are you the reader deciding if this is worth your time and effort?

Urologists are not solely men’s physicians, however they do care for a multitude of issues that are specific to men and these are ones that often are overlooked or not addressed by some (but not all) primary care doctors. For example prostate cancer, bladder cancer, urinary issues, andropause (menopause for men – btw – why is it menopause for women and andropause for men – a David Chu’s Chinese lunch to anyone who gives me an answer that makes me laugh), and a host of other health problems are specific to urology mostly male issues that often get overlooked in the realm of general health.

Many men grit their teeth when it comes to seeing the primary care doctor let alone seeing a urologist. The idea behind this blog it to start the process of education of the public in men’s health issues and to allow the guys who can’t stomach the thought of being told to “drop their pants,” a forum to ask questions and get information.

My goal is to have some fun using my computer and at the same time help our community with FREE medical information. Remember though, free information is worth what you paid for it. I can answer questions in generalities, but don’t be surprised if I tell you to consult your family doctor and get a referral to see a specialist.

Every other week or so, I will give a small talk about a men’s health issue. Hopefully that will generate questions from the internet audience and we can get moving on a two way conversation. This will both keep me busy thus keeping me out of the hair of my teenage kids and provide some useful information for the online community of the Baltimore Jewish Times.

Disclaimer – Urologists tend to have rather offbeat senses of humor. If you did what I did on a daily basis for a 15 years, you’d understand why.
I look forward to seeing this be a success. Go Ravens!

As an example of Ed’s offbeat sense of humor, his auto license plate is:
