Several months ago, a new local Jewish website launched: BaltimoreJewishLife.com. As with all local Jewish media—radio, Eruv List, websites and others—we welcome any attempts to help strengthen our community. Examiner.com writer, Maayan Jaffee (one of our former colleagues), wrote that the new site would be a “Kosher Jewish Times” and that its owner, Jeff Cohn, would ensure the site will meet the highest standards of religiosity. But it didn’t take long before BaltimoreJewishLife.com started putting up BALTIMORE JEWISH TIMES content – protected by U.S. copyright law—without even asking our permission. Despite repeated attempts to contact the anonymous “staff,” it happened a few times. Here’s but the latest example. This week, JEWISH TIMES editor Phil Jacobs broke the news story on http://www.jewishtimes.com  that Judge Karen “Chaya” Friedman was appointed the Baltimore City Circuit Court. I was wondering whether to even bother to comment but no one has yet to give any chizuk to the BJT. There is far too much sinas chinum in this community and yes it works both ways.

Yes the BJT has a legitimate right to bring to the attention of a small possible competitor to be cautious especially after a seasoned reporter (skilled in the field of politics as a former writer in the BJT) Maayan Jaffee used an unfortunate choice of words such as “Kosher Jewish Times”. I am devotedly Orthodox and even if one felt that way (and I know many who do), how in this world can we put those word into public print. Is their no moral standing on sinas chinum anymore?

So I find extremes on both ends abhorrent and feel the BJT needs a some words of comfort giving the unfortunate choice of words attributed to a Baltimore Jewish Life Staff Writer who used to work for the BJT.

Wow. Good work. The Publisher of the Jewish Times is calling out approximately 20% of the Baltimore Jewish community, and arguably many of those that self identify themselves as Jewish, and making snide and arguably nasty remarks about them.

In this economic enviroment, and the newspaper industry’s economic enviroment, this seems to be almost a stroke of promotional genius.  What better way to sell your product, then try to get into a personal and below the belt slugfest. Kudos! Hopefully the marketing firm and many research rountables that you are shelling out big bucks to, are paying off.

Can’t wait to see the next installment!

Since you’re so concerned about Torah Law all of a sudden, part of that law is judging others favorably.

Perhaps “Reporter #6” wasn’t aware how these things work, given the fact that this is a new project and he is not a paid “journalist.”  And we all know how ethical, honest and accurate “journalists” are.

I just checked the website, and the article is properly attributed to the BJT and Phil Jacobs.
