Comments (2)Hurray! Kind of, sort of. The Senate just passed an energy bill significantly increasing automakers’ required fuel efficiency…in 15 years! Please. While I’m glad that our country is moving towards an energy policy that will abate global warming, we don’t have 15 years to lower our use of terrorist oil. Iran will have a nuclear bomb with in three years. Hezbollah is rearming thanks to Iranian support. More radical Islamic schools are being built in Afghanistan which teach hate towards Jews, Americans and anything that smacks of individual freedom. So in 15 years another generation will be brainwashed about the “evil Zionists,” “capitalist Americans” and “infidels of democracy,” making it impossible to make Israel, the United States or the whole planet any safer. The U.S. could cut off the terrorist tap quite easily, if they were willing to pay a bit more for oil while they transition to alternative sources of fuel. Alberta has more oil than all of the Mid East, but since it is mixed with the sand, it costs more to extract. The U.S. government should incentivize energy companies to immediately develop a way to more easily draw tar sands oil. They would then have hundreds or thousands of years of supply from a reliable ally that is not going to use the proceeds to fund the destruction of the West. But it is not just the Republican Senate that is the problem. How Americans would be wiling to pay 4 or 5 bucks a gallon for oil—even if it would seriously eliminate terrorism?
